WHAT WILL IT ACHIEVE?

Since April 2008, we have spoken to a number of businesses on an individual basis, held a series of street meetings to understand the issues facing businesses and conducted a town centre wide business survey.   From this consultation, businesses have said they want to see:

    • Better marketing and promotion of Barnstaple, building on the town’s history and heritage and showcasing the fantastic mix of independent shops we are fortunate to have

    • A series of regular events and activities, contributing to a more vibrant town centre and acting as a draw to the town to increase footfall

    • Imrpoved signage and information provision around the town

    • Initiatives designed to make the town centre more attractive, welcoming and safer

    Through this consultation we are formulating a draft BID Business Plan detailing the activity you have said you would like to see delivered through a BID.   This will be circulated to businesses towards the end of July.  We will listen to your feedback and produce a finalised version that should be available mid September.

    The BID’s lifetime would be over a duration of 5 years, with the investment by the businesses raising in the region of £138,000 per year – or £690,000 over the 5 years.
