Welcome to BID Barnstaple

Barnstaple is one of several BID towns in the South West and since achieving BID status and is now half way through its five year period of delivering the BID Business Plan, which encompasses the wishes of traders as to what they would like to spend the BID levy on to improve their trading environment.

What Bid Has Done So Far:

Extra Christmas lights in the town centre have been provided for the third year running, and Barnstaple has earnt itself a reputation for putting on one of the best Christmas Light Switch on's in the Southwest, drawing thousands of people into the town. Bid has supported other projects along the way such as: North Devon Foodfest, Devon Wildlife Festival, The Barnstaple Carnival, Real Ale Festival, New Year’s Eve Celebrations on The Square, Green Lanes Fashion Show, to name but a few. We have also arranged for street theatre to entertain shoppers on Thursday late night shopping over the festive period.

Barnstaple Branding to Promote the Town

With the help of locally based marketing company Artavia, new branding for the commercial heart of Barnstaple was launched, with lamp post banners on the main arterial routes into town making a bold statement that Barnstaple is open for business. Marketing is at the forefront to encourage visitors to come into our town, including a TV advertising campaign.

Two new websites- www.barnstaple.co.uk and www.blissbarnstaple.co.uk have been launched, the first lists all the businesses in the BID area with details and photos of each business, the second website promotes Barnstaple's Loyal Independent Shopping Scheme, another BID led shopping incentive.

New street signage has been installed, which links into the popular colour co-ordinated Barnstaple Town Centre Map & Business Guide that BID Barnstaple produces each year. Larger versions of the map are now installed in several town centre car parks, with more to be rolled out. Town Centre Attractiveness

BID Barnstaple partnered up with Barnstaple Town Council to promote Tidy Up Our Town Campaign, including providing new rubbish bins in the core of the town. We also partnered with the Every Can Counts programme which offers an opportunity for traders and shoppers to recyle aluminium cans free of charge.

In Addition

Bid continues to write and object against out of town developments that may impact on our town centre. We have a regular monthly column in the North Devon Gazette, and send out newsletters to traders to keep them in the loop, as well as featuring the latest events and happenings on the Barnstaple.co.uk website and on our Facebook page. Barnstaple is a great place to live and work and together we are all working to make a difference to encourage more people to visit and discover what our town has to offer.
