Welcome to BIDBarnstaple

Bid Barnstaple Business Plan now available

Your town….your future…your say….

Would you like to see better marketing and promotion of Barnstaple, building on the town’s history and heritage and showcasing the fantastic mix of independent shops we possess?

Regular events, activites and street theatre taking place on a regular basis to enhance the vitality and vibrancy of the town centre?

Improved signage, maps and information provision around the town?

Schemes implemented to make the town centre more attractive, welcoming and safer?

If the answer is yes to any of these, please take time to consider what a Business Improvement District (BID) could do for the town.

BIDs are giving businesses in towns and cities across the UK an opportunity to deliver added value services, improvements and enhancements to improve their economic prosperity.  BIDs give businesses the opportunity to work together and invest collectively in local improvements in addition to the baseline services provided by the local authority.

The Barnstaple Town Centre Management Partnership is inviting you to consider establishing a BID in Barnstaple.  If we achieve BID status, we would become only the second town in the southwest behind Taunton; and the cities of Bristol, Plymouth and Truro.

Over the past year, Barnstaple Town Centre Management, as the proposer of a BID for Barnstaple, has embarked on a detailed consultation exercise with businesses in the town. Through this, a whole host of ideas and suggestions for a range of activities and improvements designed to strengthen the town centre have been received. These are currently being formulated into a draft BID Business Proposal that will be circulated to all businesses before finalising the BID Business Proposal.

The final Business Proposal should be available in mid September. All business rate payers in the BID area will have a vote on this. If the majority vote in favour, the BID will be implemented and the activities detailed in the Proposal will be brought into action.

The proposed BID activity would be funded by every business in the BID area contributing via a 1% levy based on rateable value. This will raise in the region of £138,000 per year; with every £ spent locally on the projects, services and initiatives identified by you, the business community.
